If you’ve suffered from depression, you’ll know it’s a really hard nut to crack. Often, it’s difficult to pinpoint where it has come from, but often the truth is that it’s been ticking away, giving you small signs that all is not well, but you keep ignoring it. So depression steps up its game and throws some more signals your way – often it’s by taking away pleasure in things that you have always enjoyed.
See people, it REALLY is trying to tell you that something is wrong, but if you keep ignoring it, finally it will just go all out and whack you with its full strength until you do something about it and start listening to what it’s trying to tell you.
If you know someone who has depression, there are all kinds of things you can do to help, but this one goes with a touch of voodoo to try to help things along a little. And even if it’s only a LITTLE, small steps in beating it are really what counts. They all add up.
So this is what to do. It’s based around using a poppet doll and an infusion which you drink.
Personally, I know this to be beneficial – crazy as it sounds, when I hit one of my early bouts of “official” depression, I was tearing my hair out (when I could find the energy and motivation) to find anything that would help, and I found an article that recommended leaving some rose quartz in a glass of water overnight, leaving it on a shelf where it was lit by the moon, and then drinking the water the next morning. This process was repeated nightly. And I can honestly say that I feel it helped.
But anyway, to go on with this method … For the tonic infusion, you will need
- Dried marigold
As with all types of medicine, if you are pregnant or have underlying health problems, check to make sure that it is safe for you to use these herbs.
You make the infusion by pouring boiling water over the herbs and leaving them to steep for 3 to 4 hours. You can make a reasonable amount, as it will store in the fridge for up to 4 days, and your patient is going to be drinking 1 to 3 wine glassfuls a day.
When they have steeped, strain the liquid, and at this point you can also add in a few drops of Wild Rose and Mustard Bach flower remedies, as these are noted for their anti-depressant properties.
Now for the magick. You will need:
- Dove’s Blood Ink (or a red pen if you haven’t got access to Dove’s Blood Ink)
- Holy Water
- Parchment paper
- Two yellow candles
- White cloth
- Two teaspoons each of marigold, rosemary and sundew
- Poppet doll, which it is easier and better to make yourself, as you will be inserting some bits and pieces into the doll.
Cleanse your ritual area by sprinkling Holy Water at each of the compass points. Then, using Dove’s Blood Ink or your red pen, write the name of the person who need assistance on the parchment paper.
Take your poppet doll, and add the herbs plus a piece of hair and/or nail clippings from the person you are treating. Sew the doll up, and while you do this repeat:
“Spirits of Light, charge this doll,
With the power of the sun
So it will make (name’s) spirits bright
And drive out the gloom.”
Once you have finished, wrap the doll and the parchment paper in the white cloth, and place between the two yellow candles.
Burn the candles each day at noon, replacing them as necessary, until the patient’s blues have lifted. Then thank the spirits and dispose of the poppet doll.
A good way to do this is by throwing it into running water, or get the patient to do it, as it is a good part of the cathartic process. Involving the patient in this will help them to mentally and physically cast away their low mood and be more receptive to basking in the light of positivity.
